PROVINCIAL ADVOCACY UPDATE :

🌿 An educational document has been shared with AHS committee resources for feedback, with the goal being to develop a collaborative educational platform to communicate the role of doulas in Alberta hospitals.

🌿 A request has been made to explore the reclassification of doulas as third-party contractors rather than designated support people. The benefits, drawbacks, and feasibility of this strategy are being evaluated.

🌿 DAA is pursuing one-on-one meetings with sites where access challenges remain. 

🌿 The committee will reconvene before the end of March 2022.

The provincial working group is organized by the DAA but for all doulas in Alberta. The goal is not to regulate, but to produce a collaborative guidance document (not policy) to articulate the role of doulas in acute care settings. This committee consists of 2 DAA representatives and 3 elected representatives, voted on by the community. Nothing concrete has been produced to date, as this takes time.
