DAA DOULA WIN FRIDAY

“ It’s no question that multiples presents a big risk birth, but when my client reached out at 32 weeks, they wanted better support for their upcoming twin birth. I had previously taught them prenatal classes prior to their first birth, and while they had a good outcome, they wanted a different type of support for this birth.

When I was hired at 32 weeks, it was still uncertain if the visitor policy would be changed in time. My client advocated to have a second support person. They had been scheduled for induction but also knew things could change as their pregnancy progressed.

At 36 weeks, my client began having contractions. After assessment, they were offered to go home with instruction to return if anything changed. My client settled in for an early bedtime hoping they’d get some rest in case labour picked up. They were able to have a full nights sleep prior to their water rupturing at 7:30am.

We all headed to the hospital where I waited outside until they were admitted.

My client was admitted at 8:30am and baby A was born vaginally at 9:11am with their sibling arriving shortly after at 9:21am. While the recommendation is to have an epidural, these babies were ready to come and with both babies healthy earthside, everyone was home safe and sound the following day!

After well over a decade in this work, this Unmedicated vaginal twin birth definitely felt like a doula win! My client was able to advocate for the birth experience they had hoped for“ - VICKI
