🌿 WELCOME TO DAA DOULA WIN FRIDAYS! 🌿

We want to use this platform as a safe place for Doulas to share their big WINS! Every Friday we will be sharing experiences from Alberta Doulas and celebrating their success.

“ I had a second time mama contact me early in her pregnancy looking for birthing support for her VBAC. Our relationship grew and she was so excited to be accepted into midwifery care. 

Late 1st trimester scans revealed that she had  Velamentous Cord Insertion. The midwife transferred her care to an OB. My client was devastated about this transfer so I encouraged her to ask about shared care between the two, she did and they agreed!

The next hurdle was self advocacy surrounding discussions about a scheduled C section. I encouraged my client to join support groups, dive deep into evidence and ask as many questions as she could during her trips to fetal maternal medicine in Edmonton. 

Despite the evidence and experts encouraging her to do vaginal birth the OB was insistent on a section. I helped my client write down her thoughts and built up her self confidence before her 34 week OB visit. She came out of that appointment proud and accomplished! VBAC it would be. 

Around 39 weeks my client had a beautiful vaginal birth with both her midwife and OB present. The most important role I played for her birth was prenatal advocacy, education and emotion support! I’m so proud of her and of the birthing team for coming together to best support her with evidence and autonomy.” - Tayla Malott
