Paint by @turnercolourworks acryl gouache through @jerrysartarama. This version was my original vision for the print. After some back and forth we went with a recent Elton. Since the shows were in Boston, I was thinking of the historical significance of the place and @eltonjohn costumes from the 70s and how they poked fun at history. This study served as a test on how a more refined painting could look. Ultimately, and rightfully we went in a different direction as seen in the final. I employed painting techniques and a palette found in 18th century portrait paintings by John Singleton Copley, Joshua Reynolds and a bit of my favorite, John Singer Sargent. I used acryl gouache where they painted with oils at life size. It made good for a fast study that I could paint in one sitting while maintaining color accuracy.
