Rideau was packed today for the Swatch x Audemars Piguet stop-watch collaboration drop!

Long lineups formed at Rideau today as watch fans and collectors showed up for the highly anticipated Swatch x Audemars Piguet collaboration.

So why is a roughly $400 watch creating this much hype?

The collaboration brings together Swatch, a brand known for affordable collectible releases, and Audemars Piguet, one of the most respected luxury watchmakers in the world, best known for the iconic Royal Oak, a timepiece that can sell for tens of thousands, and in some cases, far more.

Many fans expected an affordable version inspired by the Royal Oak. Instead, the brands released the colorful Royal Pop pocket watch collection. 

Despite the mixed reactions online, the hype remained strong, with collectors, resellers, and watch enthusiasts lining up for a chance to secure one.

Swatch has built a reputation for generating massive demand through limited collaborations, and previous drops have led to major lineups around the world. That same excitement clearly reached Ottawa today.
