22-year-old worker tragically k*lled in workplace incident involving a tire at Kanata auto shop 😨💔🕊️

A worker in his early 20s has died after a tire ruptured inside a mechanical bay at a Kanata auto shop over the weekend, according to Ottawa police.

First responders were called to a business on Edgewater Street at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Saturday after reports of a serious workplace incident. 

Paramedics say the employee suffered life threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

Ottawa police say the incident is not believed to be suspicious.

A spokesperson for Ontario’s Ministry of Labour confirmed they were notified of the workplace fatality at Kanata Wheels and are now investigating the incident, with Ottawa police assisting in the investigation.

People in the automotive industry have been discussing how dangerous tire inflation related failures can be. 

Some unconfirmed online discussion from individuals claiming industry experience suggests the worker may have been mounting a tire onto a rim when something allegedly failed during inflation, causing a catastrophic rupture. 

Others explained that even standard vehicle tires hold significant pressure, while larger tires can contain far more, making failures extremely dangerous in a shop environment.

Online community members are also claiming the victim was just 22 years old and raised by a single mother, though this has not been officially confirmed.

A heartbreaking reminder of how dangerous some jobs can be, even during routine work.
