Going into the 2008 NBA season, the Seattle SuperSonics were relocating to Oklahoma City. The name of this new basketball team was left undecided for a bit. The Oklahoma City Thunder NBA franchise team name came after the 2008 NBA logo sheet was initially released for the season.

Because of this reason, you see the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Charlotte Bobcats who are now the Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, LA Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Jersey Nets who are not the Brooklyn Nets, New Orleans Hornets who are now the New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz, and Washington Wizards. And then there is the OKC Thunder. At this point, there logo was just the OKC abbreviation for their new location with the NBA logo of Jerry West dribbling a basketball. This was the 2008 NBA logo sheet before the Thunder logo was released, with a note from a basketball fan saying that this is actually a perfect logo for them.

It is also cool to look back on all these old NBA logos, as they had much more character than the logos do today. I wonder why NBA teams make their logos so bland, and I wish many of them would use some of their throwback logos.

Fun fact, Kevin Durant is the only active basketball player in the NBA who was on the Seattle Sonics. KD has been in the league for a very long time and is one of the best basketball players of all time, especially in regards to shooting, as he has an amazing jump shot from anywhere on the court.
