Multiple May Day marches took place in Portland on Friday.

little_folx organized a family march at Laurelhurst Park. The event was meant to invite younger individuals into the fold of community building. Singing Resistance joined the event and helped lead the group in song through the Park.

At the South Park Blocks, Indivisible Oregon helped coordinate a gathering of multiple local organizations for speeches, educational opportunities, and a march on SW Park Avenue.

Participants chanted “fund schools, not war” “we take care of each other” and “Portland is a union town”, amongst other protests.

At the Little Folx gathering, one parent who lives near the Portland ICE facility expressed concern and confoundedness as the appeals court blocked limits on tear gas by federal agents. She noted that she now carries gas masks for herself, and her daughter.

Another young speaker stepped up to the mic and wanted folks to remember that our “differences make us beautiful.”
