The last time DPRK athletes visited the ROK was the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, where they marched alongside ROK athletes for the opening ceremony, and the two nations fielded a joint women’s hockey team. ⁣

The visit comes as tensions between the DPRK and ROK are high. In recent years the DPRK has ruled out reunification and called the ROK its “most hostile state”.⁣
