"Coach Belisto's humility and generosity are things that every young man should strive for. Mr. Belsito is the epitome of a Man for Others." 

The six 2026 Mr. Canisius finalists all had their photo taken with a faculty member of their choice during the seniors' final week of school.

Here is why David Barczak ’26 chose physical education teacher Sam Belsito:

"Coach Belsito taught me what it takes to be a leader and how to overcome obstacles when they stand in your way. If I ever felt like I needed help or someone to talk to, I knew that his door was always open. 

"I am honored to have gotten to know and play for Coach Belsito. I will always remember the seasons that we had together." 

Belsito's thoughts on Barczak: 

"David Barczak is a strong leader amongst his classmates and teammates. His character and morals are elite, while his work ethic and grit are superior as well. David has the respect from many and is never afraid to speak his mind. His ability to get his message across without offending anyone is mature beyond his years. 

"All of these qualities will serve David well in the future. He is for sure a true Crusader and Man for Others."

Here is an excerpt from the Mr. Canisius reflection by Barczak, who is from Orchard Park, attended Orchard Park Middle School and is headed to Mercyhurst University:

"The standard that is held for Canisius athletes is like no other. We are being pushed to our limits constantly, which has helped me develop tremendous amounts of discipline – and humility. 

"Coming to Canisius was by far the best decision that I have made in my lifetime."
