## Caption

Companion planting can provide many benefits and protection to reduce weed and pest pressure. It can especially be beneficial for growing tomato plants, which can be challenging to grow.

Companion planting has been used for centuries to attract pollinators and other beneficial insects, draw away pests and shade weed growth. According to Joe Masabni, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service vegetable specialist in the Department of Horticultural Sciences, sunflowers are excellent vegetable companion plants; they attract stink bugs and act as a trap crop.

While beneficial, you must keep in mind your companion plants' timing. You want to time it so they work together. Otherwise, there is no benefit.
