Lauren Cornell, Ph.D., graduated from Texas A&M University in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in genetics. Although she was initially unsure which science path to follow, she said three of her courses in the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences solidified her love of genetics and ultimately helped her decide on a career.

Today, Cornell is CEO of NovoThelium, a San Antonio-based science startup she co-founded. Cornell shared that the initial goal of the company is to help women who have undergone mastectomies by giving them the opportunity for nipple reconstruction. In the long-term, NovoThelium will help develop several women’s healthcare products to improve women’s quality of life and enhance their feeling of wholeness and overall well-being.
