## Caption

At 17 years of age, and in her golden years, female Sulawesi babirusa Olive remains a very active pig in the Indo-Malaya region of your Toronto Zoo.

If you can’t spot her out in habitat, she may be cozied up in her nest box enjoying a midday nap, completely burrowed beneath the straw with only the tip of her snout peeking out. It’s one of her special talents 🐽

Are you aware? As part of her ongoing care, Olive is receiving physiotherapy and laser therapy, and this year, she’s even started some new physiotherapy exercises to help keep her moving comfortably and confidently.

Our teams work closely together to provide specialized care for geriatric animals, ensuring they receive the support, enrichment, and medical attention they need to enjoy the highest quality of life as ambassadors for their wild counterparts.

Babirusas are wild pigs native to the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi and nearby regions. They are known for their remarkable curled tusks, which in males can grow upward through the skin of the snout! In the wild, babirusas play an important role in forest ecosystems as seed dispersers and foragers.

She’s also extra special because she is currently the only babirusa in Canada, making every visit with her a truly unique experience.

Should you be at your Toronto Zoo this May #LongWeekend, be sure to stop by and wish this incredible girl a very happy birthday 🧡 #GuardiansofWild
