On this #EndangeredSpeciesDay, and alongside our partners at species360, we are excited to share news of the first major ZIMS release of 2026: the Reproduction Dashboard.

ZIMS stands for Zoological Information Management System - a cloud-based software platform used by zoos, aquariums, wildlife parks, sanctuaries, and conservation organizations around the world to manage animal records.

It is developed and maintained by Species360, a global nonprofit organization focused on wildlife data and conservation collaboration.

The Reproduction Dashboard provides a wealth of data on reproduction for over 12,000 species supporting smarter population planning and improved animal well-being. This enables members to make evidence-based decisions for the animals in their care.

The Reproduction Dashboard is also a useful tool that transforms historical data into clear visual trends that can empower institutions to make data-driven decisions regarding species selection and multi-organizational conservation breeding programs. 

Here at your Toronto Zoo, we understand fully that effective conservation does not occur in isolation, it thrives through collaboration. Partnering with Species360 to aggregate global data on reproductive patterns and population dynamics is crucial for evidence-based conservation and the long-term sustainability of managed populations across institutions, maximizing global impact.
