Knox County Schools has removed Alex Haley's Pulitzer Prize-winning Roots from its school libraries. The reason? It was flagged under a state law targeting "excessive violence" and inappropriate content. 

Roots joins 119 books banned in Knox County alone, including Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye. And this isn't just a Tennessee problem. Over 10,000 books were banned from schools and libraries during the 2023-24 school year alone.
