Is your month-end close a scramble?

It is a crucial process for every business to ensure records are accurate for the next period. But without a plan, it's easy to miss steps. In this video, we provide a quick checklist to guide you through the three stages of a perfect close.

The Month-End Close Timeline

Phase 1: Before Closing

• Gather Docs: Start by collecting all financial documents, including invoices, receipts, and bank/credit card statements.
• Data Entry: Confirm every transaction is accounted for and coded correctly in your accounting system.

Phase 2: During Closing

• Reconcile: This is the time to reconcile critical accounts. Check bank statements, accounts payable, and accounts receivable to fix discrepancies.
• Adjustments: Don't forget non-cash items. Make adjustments for accruals, prepayments, and depreciation to reflect your true financial position.
• The Reports: Generate your key financial statements: the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Cash Flow Statement.

Phase 3: After Closing

• Final Review: Conduct a last review of your statements to catch any lingering errors.
• Secure It: Once accurate, save your finalized reports in a secure, organized location.
• Reset: With the books closed, you are ready to prepare for the next reporting cycle.

Finalizing your books gives you a clear picture of your financial health, allowing you to make smart, data-driven decisions rather than guessing.
