At the award ceremony held in Cannes during the 79th Cannes Film Festival, Park Chan-wook became only the fourth Korean to receive the prestigious title.

Created by the French Ministry of Culture in 1957, the honor is awarded to those who have made remarkable contributions to the arts around the world — and “Commandeur” is the highest of its three ranks.
