#TSRPolitics: Tennessee officials have agreed to pay $835,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a man who spent more than a month in jail over Facebook posts about the death of conservative activist #CharlieKirk.

#LarryBushart, a 61-year-old retired police officer, was arrested in September after refusing to delete memes joking about Kirk’s passing. Bushart spent 37 days behind bars before the felony charge against him was dropped in October.

Bushart later sued Perry County, the sheriff, and the investigator involved in his arrest. In the lawsuit, he said being jailed caused him to lose his post-retirement job and miss major family moments, including his wedding anniversary and the birth of his granddaughter.

One of the memes that led to his arrest referenced a comment made by President #DonaldTrump after a 2024 Iowa school shooting, where Trump said, “We have to get over it,” accordng to WSFB.
