Hacksaw Jim Duggan says Gorilla Monsoon did not like him and would barely speak to him backstage, revealing on the Everybody's Got a Pod podcast that the friction likely came down to who he was during that chapter of his life.

"Gorilla didn't like me at all. No, wouldn't hardly talk to me. Hardly say hello to me."

When host Marcus D'Angelo said he figured Monsoon would have taken to someone with Duggan's big physical presence, Duggan offered a simple explanation: "Big loud mouth."
He was candid about the version of himself who worked alongside Monsoon, describing the crew he ran with and the lifestyle that went with it.

"I was a whole different guy. I drink Jack Daniels. I carry that 357. Me and Gordie, we throw the little bottle of whiskey out of the van. Fights in bars. You talk about the transformation from Big Jim Duggan to Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Deborah transformed me. She pulled me from the dark side."

He said without that transformation he likely would not be alive today. All three of his closest friends from that era are gone.

"Doc and Gordy, Piper, all three of them, God bless them. My three best friends are dead. I would have been dead."

Gorilla Monsoon passed away in October 1999 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the inaugural class that same year.
