UPDATE: “Our Cultural Resources Manager has confirmed there are three archaeological sites within the footprint of The Courses of Clear Creek. One of those sites contains documented Native American remains,” said Chris Haug, Fort Hood public affairs director. "However, the Fort Hood MWR Horror Movie Night was held in a cleared recreational field near the driving range—outside the boundaries of all three archaeological sites. Fort Hood is home to numerous final resting places across the installation. We treat these sites with the utmost care and are reviewing our planning processes to ensure future events reflect our commitment to respectful stewardship and shared values.”

ORIGINAL: A Native American burial ground, open field and absolute darkness set the perfect backdrop for the Fort Hood MWR Horror Movie Night event Friday at The Courses of Clear Creek. DFMWR chose the original 1982 version of “Poltergeist,” a supernatural horror movie where a family’s home becomes overtaken by paranormal activity.

The movie was chosen for several reasons, but mainly because of the location for the screening.

“(It’s) because of the fact the burial ground (near the driving range), the ancient burial grounds, and (the fact) the movie ‘Poltergeist’ is based off a neighborhood being built on a grave site,” said Norma Hernandez, community activities coordinator with the community recreation division, DFMWR. “And plus, it gets really dark, super dark out here. And so, we’re hoping everybody has a spooky experience, knowing those things, knowing that about The Courses of Clear Creek.”
