For generations, America has profited from the labor, talent, creativity, intelligence, and culture of Black people. Our music, our art, our athletic ability, our inventions, our ideas, our engineering, our influence — every part of our existence has been used to build industries, institutions, and wealth that too often refuse to truly invest back into our communities. We have entertained the world while being denied ownership. We have built movements while others built fortunes from our work. We have created culture while being excluded from power. At some point, we have to ask ourselves: Why do we keep pouring our gifts into systems that exploit us? This is bigger than sports. Bigger than music. Bigger than entertainment. This is about economic power, ownership, unity, and self-determination. If you are an athlete, artist, entertainer, influencer, musician, creator, or innovator, understand your value. Stop believing that the only path to success is through industries and institutions that have historically profited from Black excellence while limiting Black ownership. Build your own. Invest in your own. Support your own. Create your own tables instead of begging for a seat at someone else’s. There are people who will respect you, uplift you, protect your vision, and help you grow without exploiting your gifts. And it starts with us believing in ourselves enough to do it differently. We are no longer blindly supporting systems that use us while ignoring our communities. Today, we choose ownership. Today, we choose independence. Today, we choose unity. Today, we boycott exploitation. They profit from our talent, our culture, our labor, our creativity, and our influence — but too rarely invest back into our communities. We’ve entertained. We’ve built. We’ve created. Now it’s time to OWN. Stop feeding systems that exploit Black excellence without respecting Black people. Build your own. Support your own. Invest in your own.
