Following the South Carolina Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the murder convictions of Alex Murdaugh, his defense team announced a lawsuit against a former county clerk who allegedly influenced the jury.

The team also addressed statements suggesting that prosecutors would seek the death penalty in a retrial, questioning why that would be done now when it was not in the first trial.

Lawyers announced a civil lawsuit against former Colleton County clerk Becky Hill, saying that she deprived Murdaugh of his right to a fair trial by speaking to the jury.
