The Phoenix area still has nearly 10,000 people experiencing homelessness in 2026 😳

According to the Maricopa Association of Governments and the Maricopa Regional Continuum of Care, **9,726 people** were counted experiencing homelessness across Maricopa County during the 2026 Point-in-Time Count.

Officials say the overall number barely changed from last year, but there was a major shift in where people were counted.

The unsheltered count dropped **12%**, while the sheltered count increased **14%** — meaning more people were indoors and connected with services, case management and support.

The 2026 count included:

5,159 people in shelters
4,366 people unsheltered
201 people at Phoenix’s Safe Outdoor Space

MAG says affordable housing shortages, high rent, limited mental health resources and lack of long-term care options are still some of the biggest factors driving homelessness in the region.

So even though officials say the numbers show some progress, the Phoenix area is still dealing with one of the biggest issues facing Arizona right now.

Do you think the Valley is doing enough to address homelessness, or is this only getting worse? 👀
