Peptides like MELANOTAN 2 are becoming increasingly popular, particularly on social media.  Unfortunately, it has very little human safety data, like many of the other peptides such as BPC-157 or TB-500.

I may not be a dermatologist, but even I know as an orthopedic surgeon that injecting peptides like MELANOTAN 2 with little to no human safety data in order to tan your skin might create some long-term issues.

 🚨 So the question is “Does Melanotan 2 increase your risk of skin cancer?” ☀️💉

Melanotan 2 is a synthetic peptide designed to stimulate melanin production and darken the skin.  It’s become popular online as a “tanning injection,” but there are some MAJOR concerns surrounding its safety.

⚠️ The biggest issue?
There’s currently NO high-quality human evidence proving Melanotan 2 directly causes melanoma or skin cancer…BUT there have been multiple case reports of patients developing changing moles, atypical pigmentation, and melanomas after use.

🧬 The concern is that by stimulating melanocytes (the pigment-producing cells in your skin), you could theoretically stimulate abnormal or cancerous cells as well.

🚫 Another problem:
Melanotan 2 is NOT FDA approved, and many products sold online may contain impurities or inaccurate dosing.

📚 Right now, the evidence is more “possible association” rather than definitive proof of causation…but personally, I’d be VERY cautious with something that artificially stimulates pigment cells when melanoma rates are already rising.

⚠️ The most common reported side effects of Melanotan II in addition to darkening of freckles and moles includes the following:

🤢 Nausea
🔴 Facial flushing
🥱 Fatigue / tiredness
🤕 Headaches
🍽️ Appetite suppression
⚖️ Weight loss
🍆 Increased libido / spontaneous erections
💉 Injection site irritation
