🚨🦴💊 Do NSAIDs like ibuprofen slow down healing, especially bone healing, after an injury like a fracture or even a sprain?

🛠️🔥 Inflammation is actually part of the healing process, which is why many people worry about taking anti-inflammatories after fractures and sprains.

📚✅ The newer literature suggests SHORT-TERM NSAID use — around 2–3 weeks or less — is probably safe in most patients and likely has minimal effect on bone healing (PMID: 34101675). However, prolonged use may increase the risk of delayed healing, nonunion, and gut-related side effects like ulcers or GI bleeding. ⚠️🩸

👨‍⚕️⏳ So yes — we still use NSAIDs in orthopedics because pain control matters. However, I still recommend trying to discontinue them as soon as possible, especially after fractures.

💊🆕 There are also newer options like Journavx (sodium channel blocker) that have not been shown to interfere with bone healing, and acetaminophen may also be another option for some patients.
