#SaturdayStorytime - Extremely Vincible
The 2021 games were good to me. I got fleeced by a young justinmedeiros34 but won multiple events and finished second. Cant complain too loud. On top of that I had already made big plans for after the games.
I was getting married in September but right before that I had a nice trip planned with friends. Mountain biking in the chilcotin mountain range. Fly in/out. Trip of a lifetime. Right before we left the rogueinvitational announced it was moving to Texas and quintupling its prize. Maybe a reason to focus, but bags were packed. I felt invincible anyways.
Anyways I was in a bit over my head and obviously I took a bad spill on the bike a couple days in. Bad ankle eversion and I know that usually means a broken ankle. Turns out im very vincible. I could feel the I told you so’s coming and the rest of my season slipping. On top of that I had 2 more days of biking to do…
We taped the ankle together, but it was real bad. I got through the rest of the trip (which was awesome) and saw a specialist when I got home.
Miraculously not broken, but big tear in deltoid ligament. Very rare but stable. A glimmer of hope!
First problem was getting the swelling under control before my wedding so I could walk down the aisle 😂. Done. Then I had another month and a half to get it as good as I could to compete.
Lots of advil and icing and I got there. Justin still took my lunch money at rogue but I put up a fight. I got a bit lucky on the workouts if I’m being honest and the bad stuff stayed away. I thought I hid it well all weekend until talking with Justin the day after. I told him about it and he laughed and said he knew. “Your ankle is still huge dude”. His friends had been sending him zoomed in shots of my fat ankle all weekend 🤷🏼‍♂️.
I’m not as sneaky as I thought I guess. Anyways if you notice my squat is a little crooked these days it’s because I still don’t have range back in my right ankle.
