Now that we have already learned the basics- how to use pot in pot method, this video shows how to cook dal and rice. In this video I am using sona masoori rice and the ratio for rice to water is still 1:1 like basmati rice. 

I am making toor dal and the ratio I used for dal to water is 1:3 and it works well for the consistency I was looking for cooked on high pressure. After the dal was cooked, I added a tadka on top and it was ready to be served with rice 

Cook both on high pressure for 10 minutes and let is self release. 

Let is naturally release instead of manually releasing it and this way it will make sure it is not undercooked. 

If you were to use delayed timer, you can choose to add little less water for dal and can set it up after 4-6 hours or whenever you need it ready. Skip the potato as it will turn black once it sits for long 

Overall you will need 40 minutes total from beginning to end.
5 minutes to wash dal and rice and set it up 
5-6 minutes before the valve goes up and it counts the time down 
10 minutes total cook on high pressure 
15-20 minutes for it to naturally release
