After several failed attempts to snag a reservation at this restaurant, we finally managed to get one — even if it was for 9 PM on a weeknight. We were determined to see what all the hype was about because we had heard so much about this place.

Was it worth the hype?
Absolutely — 100%.

Our thoughts:
What truly stood out to us was the quality of the food. Every dish we tried was exceptional. And we’re not saying this because the restaurant is hyped or rated among the top in NYC — we genuinely connected with the flavors. The serveware wasn’t overly fancy, just simple and elegant, but the food itself told a story that transported us straight back to India.

There are very few Indian restaurants in NYC that truly nail their desserts, and this one definitely does. The dessert was out-of-this-world delicious — honestly, I’d return just for that.

What we ordered as vegetarians:
	•	Paniyaram
	•	Gunpowder Dosa (the sambar was on point)
	•	Roadside Kalan (incredible)
	•	Gutti Vankaya (our favorite)
	•	Parotta
	•	Kal Dosa
	•	Vazhakkai Varuval

Dessert 🍨
	•	Elaneer Payasam 🥥 (the best!)
	•	Shahi Tukda 🍞🧁

Will we visit again?
For sure — everything was fantastic.

If you’re wondering, this is the first Indian restaurant in NYC to earn a Michelin Star, and it’s called semma.

This post is not sponsored — just our honest review.

PS: To finally secure a reservation, we contacted Amex Concierge and opened ourselves up to any weekday time. After two failed attempts on Resy, they were able to get us this booking.
