In external hip rotation the knee tracks away from the midline. Internal rotation finds the knee facing towards the midline. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In postures like svarga dvijasana (bird of paradise) and vrksasana (tree) the hip is in external rotation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A common tendency in the lifted leg during Warrior III is for the toes to turn out to the side, a sign that the hip is externally rotating, but we are aiming for neutral pelvis in this space.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We like to cue people to bring one hand to their sacrum to check if it’s level, or lift through the outer left hip. What are some of your favorite cues to bring students into proper alignment in Warrior III? Seriously, one of the hardest poses in yoga!!!
