This #nationalbrothersday, we’re celebrating a story that feels a little like eight lucky paws of fate. 🩵💙

At just eight weeks old, brothers Skeeter and Slater headed off to begin their journeys with their puppy raisers and then entered professional training in different regions of the country: Skeeter in the North Central Region and Slater in the Southeast Region.

In February 2025, something incredible happened.

Becky and Slater graduated as a #facilitydog team from the North Central Training Center, joining Kids Talk Child Advocacy Center in Anderson, Indiana. During the same week, Skeeter, who was released from our service dog program, was adopted by Alyssa to become our #therapydog at Zoey's Place Child Advocacy Center in Greenfield, Indiana.

By pure coincidence, they discovered that Skeeter and Slater were brothers, and it was a complete surprise to all - and no doubt, a serendipitous reunion, years in the making.

Today, these brothers are making an extraordinary impact in their own unique ways.

🐕‍🦺 As a facility dog, Slater works alongside Becky, a forensic interviewer and victim advocate, helping children navigate some of the hardest moments of their lives. From forensic interviews to courtroom appearances, Slater provides grounding comfort through trained tasks like deep pressure therapy, helping children feel safe enough to share their stories. Since graduating, he's already supported 238 children, including assisting during 108 forensic interviews and 21 courtroom appearances.

🐕 Meanwhile, Skeeter has quickly become a beloved part of the Zoey’s Place Child Advocacy Center family. As a therapy dog, he spends his days bringing calm, comfort and joy to everyone he meets. Whether he’s offering reassurance during difficult moments or simply making someone smile with his playful spirit and wagging tail, Skeeter’s gentle presence has become an invaluable source of support for staff, clients and #community partners alike. ❤️

Though their roles are different, both brothers are doing exactly what they were destined to do: to bring healing, hope and comfort to children and families. 🫶
