Volkswagen’s sense of humor in the 2000’s was amazing...

Imagine a humble hatchback mutated into a mid-engine monster with a twin-turbo Bentley W12 engine crammed where the back seats used to be.

This was the one-off Volkswagen Golf GTI W12-650, a 641-horsepower concept car engineered in just eight weeks for a 2007 festival.

When Jeremy Clarkson unleashed it on the Top Gear track, its supercar-slaying straight-line speed was hilariously undermined by a total lack of handling, leading to an iconic, grass-spinning review.

Today, this beautiful disaster safely resides in Volkswagen’s official museum as a relic of pure automotive madness.
