At least 24 people have been killed and 70 others injured in an explosion targeting a train transporting military personnel in Pakistan.⁣

The blast occurred in western Balochistan, on Sunday. The Balochistan Liberation Army separatist group claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was a suicide bombing. Pakistani officials have not yet confirmed this.⁣
The attack was the latest in a series of strikes on trains, security forces and infrastructure in the mineral-rich province of Balochistan that borders Iran and Afghanistan, where Pakistan has launched counterinsurgency operations after some of the deadliest violence in years.⁣

Earlier this year, Pakistani forces killed 145 militants in a 40-hour operation after coordinated attacks across Balochistan left nearly 50 people dead, provincial officials said.⁣

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said: “Such cowardly acts of terrorism cannot weaken the resolve of the people of Pakistan. We remain steadfast in our determination to eliminate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”⁣
