Chantal’s ongoing documentary project follows Addis Girls Skaters, a collective of young women in Ethiopia using skateboarding to create spaces for freedom, solidarity and self-expression in Addis Ababa.

The project explores how skateboarding has become far more than sport for many of the women involved, challenging expectations around gender and age while building community in a country rebuilding after years of conflict.

The wider SHRED THE PATRIARCHY series has also documented women’s skate communities in India in 2024 and Morocco in 2022.
