For those of you curious about the deeper distinction between tropical and sidereal astrology, I wanted to offer a little more context here.

This post is not an attack on tropical astrology. I believe tropical astrology is a profound symbolic and psychological system that has helped many people cultivate meaning, self-awareness, and connection to archetypal cycles.

But the reason I personally practice through the sidereal zodiac is because I am deeply interested in astrology as an observational relationship with the actual sky.

Sidereal astrology is used across many ancient astrological traditions and calculates the zodiac according to the visible constellations themselves. This means that when a sidereal astrologer says the Moon is in Scorpio, they are referring to the Moon’s observable placement against the stellar backdrop of Scorpio in the night sky.

Due to the gradual shifting of the equinoxes over long periods of time, the tropical and sidereal zodiacs are currently separated by roughly 24 degrees. This is why tropical astrology may place this Full Moon in Sagittarius, while sidereal traditions perceive it in Scorpio.

For me, this distinction becomes especially interesting when we move beyond labels and actually feel the quality of a lunation directly.

Sagittarius is traditionally associated with expansion, philosophy, optimism, outward movement, and fire.

Scorpio is associated with emotional intensity, psychological depth, intimacy, attachment, grief, transformation, and the revealing of hidden undercurrents.

As we approach this Full Moon, I personally experience the atmosphere far more through the lens of Scorpio and Anuradha Nakshatra than Sagittarius.

Not simply intellectually, but somatically. Relationally. Energetically.

This is why I always encourage people not to blindly inherit systems, but to develop a direct relationship with the sky itself. Observe your emotions. Observe your dreams. Observe the collective atmosphere. Observe your body.

Astrology becomes much more alive when it shifts from memorized meanings into lived observation.
