After a horrid April that saw the Mets go 7-19 and tumble to the bottom of both the NL East and NL Wild Card race, the club has started to show signs of life in May.

While the early portion of the season was headlined by a brutal 12-game losing streak, the Mets have begun to string together encouraging performances as the calendar has flipped.

The rookie duo of Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing has been a real bright spot for the Mets. Benge has provided a spark in the leadoff spot, while Ewing has made an immediate impact with both his speed and discipline at the plate. And Juan Soto is, of course, Juan Soto.

The NL East race, meanwhile, has been dominated by the Atlanta Braves, who currently own the best record in baseball. Their scorching start has allowed them to build a commanding division lead, with the Mets sitting 14.5 games out of first place.

It also hasn’t helped that the Mets have been ravaged by injuries, with Francisco Lindor, Jorge Polanco, Luis Robert Jr., Francisco Alvarez, Kodai Senga, and Clay Holmes all sidelined with no clear timetable for a return.

As for the NL Wild Card picture, the Mets are currently 7.5 games back of a playoff spot. While there is still plenty of baseball left to be played, they can’t afford to fall much further behind if they hope to climb back to .500 and re-enter the postseason conversation. #Mets #LFGM #NLEast
