## Caption

Total solar eclipses on Earth are possible because the Sun is about 400 times larger than the Moon while also being roughly 400 times farther away, creating nearly identical apparent sizes in the sky. Mars experiences very different eclipses because Phobos is small and irregularly shaped. This transit was captured by NASA’s Perseverance rover on April 2, 2022, using Mastcam-Z cameras on Mars.
