The line between confidence and narcissism is surprisingly simple.

Confidence doesn't require other people to be smaller so you can feel bigger.

Confidence doesn't need constant attention, validation, or admiration. It doesn't walk into every room believing the rules don't apply. It doesn't assume that other people's beliefs, values, traditions, or boundaries are less important than its own desires.

Narcissism does.

A confident person can be proud of their achievements while still showing respect to the people around them. They understand that self-worth and humility can coexist.

A narcissistic person mistakes attention for respect.

They believe that because something matters to them, it should matter more than everyone else's values, feelings, or traditions.

The real test of confidence isn't how you behave when people are praising you.

It's how you behave when you're asked to show respect.

Anyone can love themselves.

Not everyone can do it without making everything about themselves.
