Since the beginning of Enes Kanter Freedom’s 11-year NBA career, he’s also built a reputation as an advocate, calling out human rights violations around the world and in his home country of Turkey. But after publicly criticizing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2013, he’d forever change the lives of those closest to him.

On the latest Sports in America, we talk to enesfreedom about his childhood in Turkey and how he made his way into the NBA. We’ll also hear why he feels so passionate about speaking up even when everyone, including his family, warned him not to.
