This #ReconciliationWeek, we highlighting one of our Police Aboriginal Liaison Officers (PALOs), Tia.⁣
⁣
PALOs work closely with Aboriginal Community Liaison Officers (ACLOs), community groups and communities to help break down barriers with police. It’s a role grounded in trust, connection and community.⁣
⁣
Originally from New Zealand, and with family in the job, policing was always something Tia wanted to pursue. 

Alongside her PALO role, she also works in a Proactive Policing Unit, focusing on building genuine relationships and helping create culturally safe and respectful interactions with police.⁣
⁣
“As a Māori woman, I’ve always valued culture, community and looking out for people. That’s one of the reasons I was drawn to working with Aboriginal communities through the PALO role.”⁣
⁣
For Tia, this year's theme, “All In”, is about coming together, learning from each other, celebrating culture and strengthening connections.⁣
⁣
She encourages young Aboriginal people considering policing to back themselves:⁣
⁣
“Back yourself and give it a go. It’s not always easy, but it’s a really rewarding path where you can make a real difference.”⁣
⁣
Victoria Police recognises the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and work, and pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging.⁣
