Not all pacemakers work the same way. And getting asked about pacemakers in an interview is... arrhythmia inducing. 

The mode — VVI, DDD, VOO — tells you which chamber is being paced, which is being sensed, and what the pacemaker does when it senses something (read that twice). 

For CRNA interviews, knowing pacemaker basics shows you can manage a complex cardiac patient in the perioperative setting. That's not a small thing. Programs notice when applicants can speak to device management.

And if you're studying for your CCRN,  the CCRN tests this in cardiovascular, and it shows up more than most applicants expect. (stressful, I know, but it's learnable — I promise.)
