Forgive yourself for not knowing earlier
what only time could teach you.

Some lessons cannot be rushed.
Some truths only arrive through heartbreak, loss, mistakes, endings, and experience.

You were making decisions with the version of you that existed at the time.
With the awareness you had.
With the emotional capacity you had.
With the wounds you hadn’t yet understood.

Grief especially changes this.

After loss, many people look back and torture themselves:
“I should have called more.”
“I should have noticed.”
“I should have appreciated them differently.”
“I should have known.”

But the painful reality is this:

Sometimes wisdom only arrives after life changes us.

Not because we were careless.
But because some understandings can only be earned through lived experience.

Time teaches us what truly matters.
It teaches us how fragile people are.
How temporary moments are.
How precious love really was all along.

And while that realization can hurt deeply,
it can also soften you.

You stop judging your past self so harshly.
You begin understanding them.

The version of you back then was doing the best they could with what they knew.

And the version of you now?
They exist because of everything time has taught them since.
