Minneapolis' 93.7 The Edge was a beloved modern rock radio station that operated from 1994 to 1997. Though it only existed in this form for four years, the station quickly became a staple of the Twin Cities music scene by following the rise of modern rock nationwide and establishing one of the area's only dedicated frequencies for alternative rock, grunge, and modern rock music. These rock stations became well known for their offbeat commercials, which often featured middle-aged adults reading the raunchy and sometimes outrageous lyrics of the grunge songs played on the station. Other stations used variations of this same ad, and they've been remembered fondly as a nostalgic addition amongst other cable TV spots. The Edge's popularity also led to the creation of "Edgefest," an annual music festival that brought major alternative acts to the Twin Cities. One lineup famously included No Doubt, Korn, and Garbage. _ #pigeonsandplanes #radio #rock #grunge #altrock
