Following Monday night's rainstorm, emergency crews in two western North Carolina counties reported road closures due to flash flooding and debris in the roadway.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) reported road washouts in parts of Southern Buncombe County and Henderson County led to the closure of Charlotte Highway (US-74A) in both directions near the Buncombe and Henderson County line.

The closure is the result of a severe road failure, where a 12-foot-deep hole was found beneath the roadway between Sugar Hollow Road and the Buncombe/Henderson County line.
