Arizona heat is already extreme — but one day in state history still stands above the rest.

The hottest temperature ever officially recorded in Arizona was 128°F in Lake Havasu City on June 29, 1994.

For comparison, Phoenix’s all-time record is 122°F, recorded in June 1990.

At 128°, the heat is beyond uncomfortable. Asphalt can get hot enough to burn skin, car interiors can become dangerous in minutes, and being outside for too long can quickly become a serious health risk.

Triple-digit summers are normal in Arizona, but temperatures pushing close to 130° are rare — and that’s what makes this record so wild.

With Arizona summers feeling hotter and longer in recent years, a lot of people wonder if the state could ever hit 130°.
