Two people were arrested at the Salt River after MCSO says deputies were reportedly assaulted while responding to a separate incident over Memorial Day weekend.

According to authorities, deputies were called to the Mud Cliffs area along the Salt River around 7 p.m. Sunday after a woman reported she had been assaulted by another group and held underwater. When deputies arrived, the woman reportedly pointed out the suspect and others who were with the group.

MCSO says while deputies were interviewing the suspect, Beyonce Burruel and Dario Burruel interfered with the investigation before the situation escalated. Several deputies reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.

Beyonce Burruel was booked on charges of assault and aggravated assault to impede breathing, while Dario Burruel was booked on a charge of aggravated assault on a first responder.

The arrests happened during a busy and tragic Memorial Day weekend along the Salt River, where officials also reported two separate drowning incidents.
