💙🎪 Meet Layla Rhone.

To her family, she's a princess. A superstar. The light of the room.

But several years ago, after a visit to @childrensmercy, Layla's family received the kind of news no parent is ever prepared to hear: Layla had Stage 3 Wilms tumor, a form of kidney cancer.

As her family struggled to process the diagnosis, Layla began treatment under the expert care of the doctors, nurses, researchers, and staff at Children's Mercy. More than 25 rounds of chemotherapy and radiation followed. Long days. Difficult treatments. Time away from her siblings. The kinds of challenges no child should ever have to face.

Through it all, one thing helped make the hard days a little brighter: her dad's music.

JahVelle would bring his saxophone to the hospital and play for Layla and other children receiving treatment, creating moments of joy, comfort, and normalcy in the midst of the unimaginable.

Today, five years later, Layla is cancer-free.

She's back to being the superstar princess her family always knew she was.

Her story is why Big Slick exists.
Every ticket purchased. Every auction bid. Every sponsorship. Every donation. Every laugh shared during the weekend helps make stories like Layla's possible.

As Children's Mercy President and CEO Dr. Alejandro Quiroga says:

"The only reason why Children's Mercy exists because of events like today - because of you. Because of what you have given us and how we build this together."

And perhaps the most powerful words come from JahVelle himself:

"My daughter - she's just one person. But she gets to go to school every single day and live her life because of people like you who are generous... who help. That's life-changing."

This weekend, together, we raised more than $4 million for pediatric cancer research and care at Children's Mercy.

But the true impact isn't measured in dollars. It's measured in kids like Layla.

Thank you for helping create more stories like hers. 💙
