Meet Sofie Chavez (Sof for short), a WoW member who received Level I Snowboard Certification at @BigSkyResort this past season. 

From owning her own teleprompter service business to co-creating the queer ride group @ChatterSnow , and her continued work with @Hoodstowoods @parkaffair @blackboardersct @_were_all_mental Chavez’s 4th season of snowboarding is shaping up to be eventful!

Our chat explores her city’s cultural hubs, reaching beyond city limits into snowsports. East Coast shredding pairs well with parking lot coffee meetups! There, she connects LGBTQ members with allies and discusses societal and mental health challenges.

Chavez sees snowsports connecting a variety of groups through a simple concept—riding down a mountain on a piece or pieces of wood. 

In those moments of finding presence with others, Chavez witnesses people’s desire to see each other succeed.

“…when you see someone else going through that same struggle, and then when they get it, and they have, like, that ah-ha moment, it's so cool to have a community around you that are so psyched about it.”

Chavez aims to achieve her Freestyle Level I Certification through WoW this season. For those considering snowsport instruction, she says:

“Be coachable. Don't have a big head…it doesn't matter how long you've been riding or what you think you're really good at. There's always room to improve. And there's always different ways of doing things right.”
