Will Keilty won the Canada's first-ever gold medal at the Optimist North American Championship, held May 21-28 in Halifax, while the Canadian team made its first-ever podium appearance in the Team Racing event, securing a bronze medal.

Canadian Sailing Team members Antonia and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance were on-site to give medals, including to Canadian gold medalist Will Keilty, as well as NorthStar SailGP Team member Billy Gooderham.

A total of 172 competitors representing 15 countries took part in the competition, including 30 Canadians.

Will Keilty a remporté la toute première médaille d'or pour le Canada au Championnat nord-américain en Optimist, qui s'est déroulé du 21 au 28 mai à Halifax, alors que l'équipe canadienne est montée sur le podium pour la toute première fois dans l'épreuve de course par équipe de cette compétition, décrochant une médaille de bronze.
