When the 2023 BET Awards needed a moment that would stop the world, Quavo and Offset delivered exactly that. Fresh off a flight from Paris with only 16 hours to spare, the two locked in and built the entire tribute from scratch, the staging, the lighting, the visuals, all as a unit with no sleep and pure love for Takeoff driving every decision.

The Microsoft Theatre fell silent as Takeoff’s recorded voice filled the room, an empty spotlight cutting through white laser lights, a ghost on stage that nobody could ignore. The backdrop shifted from a space shuttle, a nod to Takeoff’s nickname “Rocket,” into a powerful image of him pointing toward the sky, and the energy in that building was something fans will never forget.

Offset said afterward that performing with Quavo “cleared my soul,” cementing this tribute as one of hip hop’s most emotionally raw and real moments in recent memory.
