Meet Class of 2026 graduate Tyra Alexander, an English major with a journalism specialization from Bowie, Maryland!

Driven by her passion for journalism, Tyra embraced leadership opportunities across Loyola—writing for Loyola’s student-run newspaper (TheGreyhoundNews), literary magazine (CorridorsMag), and the University’s chapter of Her Campus (HCAtLUM). Tyra’s first Her Campus story was featured by the official HerCampus account, which led to her becoming a national writer for the platform, covering major events including the 2024 Summer Olympics and the 2025 Grammys.

Tyra says she knew Loyola was home the moment she stepped on campus. “The charm drew me in, but the continuous mentorship is why I stayed. What makes Loyola special is that you can find support wherever you are—whether it’s a professor whose class you’ve never taken, an administrator, or another student, there’s always someone who wants to help you succeed.”

Over her four years, Tyra completed several internships, including a spring semester position in Washington, D.C., at EventsDC during her senior year! “I loved working events such as the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade and capturing social media content at high-stakes events like the Embassy Chef Challenge. This experience was especially meaningful to me as I was able to contribute to numerous social campaigns and uphold the company’s mission, while balancing being a student.”

“Loyola has shaped me in all aspects of my life: academically, professionally, spiritually, and emotionally. The past four years have taught me to value connection, and to allow myself room to grow as time passes.”

This fall, Tyra will attend GeorgetownUniversity to pursue a Master of Professional Studies in Public Relations and Corporate Communications, while continuing her internship at Events DC.
